Former NASCAR driver Jeremy Mayfield has been arrested on possession of methamphetamine charges, according to WBTV. Mayfield has been suspended from NASCAR since 2009.
Jeremy Mayfield brought new claims to light as he asked a judge to reconsider a ruling that dismissed his lawsuit. He claims that NASCAR officials disliked him because he lured a sponsor NASCAR was courting.
Jeremy Mayfield’s legal team, headed by Mark Geragos, filed a motion Tuesday night asking a U.S. district judge to reconsider his ruling that dismissed Mayfield’s claims against NASCAR in May.
U.S. District Court Judge Graham Mullen dismissed all claims by Jeremy Mayfield in his lawsuit against NASCAR following his failure of a May 1 drug test in which he is said to have tested positive for methamphetamines.

Lisa Mayfield, step mother of Jeremy Mayfield, was arrested outside his Catawba County house. She was charged with public intoxication, and has warrants issued for simple assault and trespassing. Lisa is a witness in the case between Jeremy and NASCAR over his failed drug test and suspension.
NASCAR has filed briefs to get Jeremy Mayfield’s injunction premanently thrown out. NASCAR claims to have several witnesses to Mayfield’s alleged drug use, but they are hesitant to come forward after Mayfield’s comments towards his stepmother. The briefs are in response to filings from Mayfield seeking to get the injunction reinstated.
The U.S. Court of Appeals has lifted the injunction won by Jeremm Mayfield earlier this month, paving the way for NASCAR to spend the driver until an appeal can be heard, which is likely to happen around October.
