SceneDaily.com is reporting that NASCAR is considering changing how qualifying order is determined. Rather than drawing to determine qualifying order, the order would be determined by practice speeds prior to qualifying. This system has been used in the Camping World Truck Series.
The goal is to have those with faster practice speeds — and thus more likely to be competing for the pole — qualify at the end of qualifying, to add more drama to the show.
Teams that are not in the top 35 in owner’s points could still be grouped together during qualifying.
