Mark Martin is expected to announce Friday that he will be replacing Casey Mears in the Hendrick Motorsports No. 5 Chevy in the Sprint Cup next season, sources familiar with the matter say.
Hendrick has called a press conference for Friday to announce Mears’ replacement.
Martin has been in talks with Hendrick and will be that driver, the sources say.

I’ve been a Mark Martin fan for a long time and had mixed emotions about his signing with DEI. I can’t say I feel bad to see him leave and go to Hendrick Motorsports. I do feel bad for Casey Mears. He hasn’t had a great year, but then again, none of the Hendrick drivers have. With fewer sponsors to go around and teams downsizing I hope he can find a ride next year.
Casey Mears, in my opinion, hasn’t been given a fair shake at Hendrick. But, sometimes that’s just the way life, and NASCAR, is.
